Project Cuddle Bugs
Roots & Shoots, founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, is a global program emphasizing the principle that knowledge leads to compassion, which inspires action. All Roots & Shoots groups show care and concern in three areas: the human community, animals, and the environment.
The mission of Roots & Shoots is to foster respect and compassion for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place for people, animals, and the environment. Roots & Shoots engages and inspires youth through community service and service learning projects.
The Black Hills State University Roots & Shoots group is planning our first service opportunity, Project Cuddle Bugs. Foster children often enter the care program without any personal belongings. Students of all ages, with the assistance of adults in our area, are being offered the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of foster care children through Project Cuddle Bugs. We will be making and donating fleece tie blankets to be given to children entering foster care. Our hope is that presenting a blanket to each child may add a sense of security during a time of great uncertainty. Additionally we hope this program will encourage our youth to embrace an understanding that they truly can make a difference in the lives of others, while also providing the occasion for our community to join in a united effort. From our collaboration with a variety of different people and organizations we are hoping to meet or surpass our set goal of 100 blankets.
