BLAHST Workshop Questions and Answers

Who can attend these workshops?

These workshops are designed for K-8 teachers in the school districts that are part of the BLAHST project. (see map) If you are not one of these teachers but wish to participate anyway, please contact us to make arrangements.

What is the cost of the workshops?

If you are taking workshops for professional development as a teacher in the BLAHST Project, there is no cost. (We still need your reservation.)

How about graduate credit?

Graduate credit may be available, please contact Cathy Bergey for details.

Will there be stipends?

The BLAHST Project will be paying stipends for teachers attending summer and weekend workshops. However, no stipends will be available for workshops during regular working hours.

I teach elementary or middle school science in one of the BLAHST school districts. Do I have to go to the workshops?

The BLAHST project is obligated to the National Science Foundation to provide 100 hours of professional development to all elementary teachers and middle school science teachers in the BLAHST school districts over the next four years. If we don't meet that goal, our funds may be reduced by the NSF. Fortunately, you have four years to complete your 100 hours. Also, you will probably enjoy attending. Your fellow teachers who have attended workshops can tell you how valuable and enjoyable their experiences were. Finally, the BLAHST project is providing additional opportunities for professional development through activities with your local lead teachers and visits by project staff members. We're here to help you!

I hope this answers your questions.
