- Account of site visits
- General reflections
2. Workshop update
- Attendance: Much higher than neumber of sign-ups
- Feedback: typically good(average overall rating of 4.2 on a
scale of 1 to 5)--a few concerns about relevance to grade levels.
Any responses below 4 are cause for concern--need to
minimize.
- Need to get the information on the WEB-SITE--still plenty of
confusion about when and where.
3. External Evaluation
- The mantle of Lead Evaluator has been transferred to Bob
Magelky
- Update from Bob about Lead Evaluator Meeting in D.C.
4. Derrick's resignation--where do we go from here?
- Update on communication with Joyce Evans (Program Officer at
NSF)
- NSF needs letter proposing change of leadership. This letter
should emanate from President of BHSU and be signed by PMT.
Recommendations from this meeting will guide the preparation of
letter.
5. Proposed change in staffing
- PI and Project Director 25% FTE Ben Sayler
- Project Manager 75% FTE Master K-8 Teacher (BH to cover other
25%)
- Materials Coordinator 50% FTE (BHSU to cover entire salary, no
grant funds)
- Project Director would make about 3 site visits per year to
each distric, attend and teach workshops, aprovide guidance to
Project Manager, correspond with NSF, oversee budget, participate
in evaluation, atten PMT meetings. Project Director's contribution
of time might exceed 0.25 FTE, but only a quarter salary would be
charge to grant.
- Program Manager to have strong experience within k-8 arena. He
or she would make about 8 site visits per year to each district.
Site visits could involve model teaching, co-teaching, peer
coaching, facilitation of after-school staffdiscussions, etc.
Program Manager would also oversee web-site, coordinate external
evaluation with Bob, facilitate PMT meetings, oversee materials
coordinator. This position would be full-time, but only 75% FTE
would be charged to grant.
6. NSF Site Visit
- Joyce Evans, our Program Officer, would lik eto atten some PD
sessions and meet with PMT. Could be this summer or possibly next
fall.
7. Planning for Summer Workshops
Offerings:
- repeat of 1-day workshops (phys, earth, life, maybe just K-3
and 4-8 since 6-8 tends to be a much smaler group)
- repeat of 4-day Bad Lands (Bill)
- repeat of 4-day Life Science I (Charlie)
- new 4-day Physical Science I -- Electricity and Magnetism
(Andy)
- new 4-day Life Science II (Charlie)
Possibilities:
- new 4-day Earth Science II (Bill)
- repeat of 1-day Project Orientation (by grade bands?)
- new Instructional Strategies (or something that's not as
content-oriented)
