Course Description: This course is designed to deepen teachers' content knowledge in algebra and to build understanding of the inter-relatedness with geometry and numerical reasoning. Throughout the course, a learning environment will be modeled that meets the needs of all students, helping them become successful problem solvers who are able to use mathematics as a powerful tool for making sense of situations and information in the real world. Participants will work collaboratively and independently on tasks that embed mathematical ideas in a variety of contexts. The course models both the kinds of assessment practices that result in improved student performance and a learning environment consistent with what is known about the human brain and human learning.
Text: Participants will be provided all necessary readings and other course materials prepared by the Mathematics Education Collaborative.
